Yeehaw

a new local music festival on South Broadway
(and a little bit beyond)
run by artists

Blucifer’s First Rodeo, a new festival run by artists, is coming to Denver this summer, July 23-26, spotlighting DIY culture and South Broadway, and inviting Denver to learn the magic and fun of live, local music all year long!

the goal

Our big goal is to throw a party that invites the larger Denver community to experience the diverse and talented scenes of live, local music.

Together, we can make this a big summer holiday for the many scenes of Denver music, and a beautiful invitation for everyone in Denver to experience what it means to join the music. What could be better in the heat of summer than being in the thick of great music in locally-run houses, venues, and weird spaces? :))

FAQ

can i play?

Submissions for artists closed on March 13th. THANK YOU to everyone!! Over 700 wow!! So much amazing local Denver music AND people who want to help!! Heck yeah!

We will be reaching out over the coming weeks to musical acts, and we will also be assembling teams of volunteers, artists, and more (does anyone make saddles).

For musical acts, we won't be able to find a spot for everyone. =( With over 700 submissions and only around 140 slots (when we figure out house shows), we just can't fit everybody. But we're going to host some artist meetups and try to book more showcases throughout the year for folks we can't fit in the fest! Because live local music happens all year long!

are there shows for people under 21?

Yes! We love all ages shows! All ages shows will happen Thursday 7/23 for our DIY Kickoff night at Seventh Circle, D3, and Manos Sagrados. They'll also happen at various non-bar venues along Broadway, mostly for free, on Friday and Saturday during the day. House shows on Sunday will also be all ages, depending on the discretion of the individual hosts!

Our amazing and wonderful bar venues will be 21+. We discussed this with our bar venue partners, and it's too complicated to do 21+ shows without a lot of advance planning—and it's often sadly impossible, depending on the venues' permits and licenses etc. We're actively exploring how we can be more flexible with this next year, because we really love our bar venue partners and want everyone to be able to experience shows in these spaces!

We're also not planning any outdoor stages in our first year. As seven working musicians throwing this as volunteers, we want to succeed in a focused way rather than fail in a big way. Outdoor stages cost $10k+ to put together and a ton of money in permitting and security needs etc.

Next year, we want to try outdoor stages and more all ages stuff! For this year, we think the best deal for folks under 21 will be our DIY All-Ages Wristband, which will go on sale 4/10 for $33 and will include admission to everything on Thursday, a map/guide to all the house shows, and discounts on merch.
